Finally the Steelers get a chance to Defend their throne. It’s been close to 7 months since the Steelers won their 6th Super Bowl. The Draft has come & gone, the crud of each team has been cut/waived letting the future have its day now.
Steelers open up against the tough Tennessee Titans, who last year had the best record in the NFL. They return their aging QB Kerry Collins, who did well last year but not expected to play as well or last the whole year. With no star wide outs, the Steelers shouldn’t be concerned with any long pass plays. So shutting the running game should be key. Key on RB’s LenDale White & Super Sophomore Chris Johnson & you can stop their offense, which is rush dominating.
On Defense the Titans, are very very tough – but that was last year when they had that Monster in the middle of the Line in Albert Haynesworth – he’s gonzo, so the Steelers should be able to create some room for the duo of Willie Parker & 2nd year man Rashard Mendenhall to do some damage on the ground. Add to that the upcoming passing game with Super Bowl sensation of Santonio Holmes & still productive Heath Miller & Hines Ward. Steelers should be able to score on the Titans & hold off their dual threat on the Ground.
Steelers Defense should be almost as good as they were last year, which is a hard feat to accomplish as they finished near the top in all the Defensive stats – hard to duplicate that again. Returning studs are all back – a who’s who of Defensive studs: James Farrior, Casey Hampton, James Harrison (League Defensive Player of the year), Troy Polamalu, Lawrence Timmons, LaMarr Woodley. Should be another fabulous year for Steelers trashing & crushing opponents week after week after week.
Steelers win their 1st game of the year to start off 1 – 0, what a way to defend your title, at home & collecting that nice bling bling. #7 is coming, Feb 2010 is not too far.
Below, Titans best player - RB Chris Johnson - someone the Steelers will have to trip up to win their opener.
